In the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas, the Vicksburg Formation has long been recognized as a prolific petroleum producer. McAllen Ranch is located in the Vicksburg Formation in Hidalgo County, more specifically in the area known as the “Vicksburg Fairway.”
Geological studies in the 1970’s identified McAllen Ranch as a
MAC-GT1 will be the first commercial geothermal installation in Texas. In fact, it will be the first commercial geothermal installation of its kind as it will generate electricity from a geologic formation known as hot dry rock. Located on McAllen Ranch, MAC-GT1 is a joint venture between Rio Grande Geothermal LLC as the developer and Sage Geosystems as the engineer and contractor.
