In the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas, the Vicksburg Formation has long been recognized as a prolific petroleum producer. McAllen Ranch is located in the Vicksburg Formation in Hidalgo County, more specifically in the area known as the “Vicksburg Fairway.”
Geological studies in the 1970’s identified McAllen Ranch as a prime candidate for geothermal exploration. However, drilling and fracking technologies at the time were insufficient to harness geothermal energy.
Rio Grande Geothermal, LLC has partnered with Sage Geosystems and the ownership of McAllen Ranch to develop a sustainable protocol for accessing geothermal energy in abandoned natural gas perforations. With modern drilling and fracking technology, the primary objective of Rio Grande Geothermal, LLC is to become the lead producer of sustainable geothermal energy in Texas. Once this goal is achieved, Rio Grande Geothermal LLC will then make green energy technology available in other markets.
